The Carolina Sunset has a unique story, one unlike many other beach homes. While scrolling through Craigslist one night, we came across a picture of this house. From the pictures, the deal looked to good to be true and we were convinced it was just your average internet scam. Out of curiosity, we called the number attached only to find out the house belonged to a German bank and had been foreclosed for a while. We decided to make a trip out to the coast to see it in person. As we were walking in, we passed more than one couple finishing up their tour, leaving with disgusted looks on their faces. It wasn’t until we passed the threshold that we began to understand why.
The house had clearly been abandoned for a decent amount of time. Shingles were falling off, the cabinets were stained from smoke, and nearly every inch of square footage was covered in carpet that had seen its fair share of use. We decided to take on the challenge and turn the Carolina Sunset into a home. Every weekend for over a year our family commuted 6 hours both ways to work on our project. We slept on bare mattresses in the middle of the renovation with no air conditioning or appliances.
After a lot of hard work, and so many trips to Ace Hardware they knew us by name, the Carolina Sunset became what it is today. In 2020, we celebrated our 10 year anniversary and reminisced on all of the memories we have made here. We hope that during your stay at our home, you feel the love we put into making it perfect for you. Thank you for being a part of our journey.
